Driver fined for causing traffic jam

Tema, April 22, GNA - The Tema Circuit Court "A" has fined a trotro driver 1.5 million cedis for picking passengers at a "no parking area," thereby causing traffic jam at the Tema Business Centre. Ebenezer Nartey, who pleaded guilty to charges of picking passengers at an unauthorised place and preventing the free flow of vehicles will go to jail for six months if he fails to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on Monday, at 09:30 hours, the personnel of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) went on traffic control check in the Tema Municipality where no parking traffic signs had been erected at Tema Municipal Assembly office's area.

He said Nartey who was driving a Hyundai Grace bus with registration number GT 870 Q was found parked at an unauthorised place where "no parking" signs had been erected.

Inspector Otchere said the action of the driver obstructed other road users and he was therefore arrested and charged with the offence.
