Renowned Ghanaian dancer and Head of the Dance Department at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, Dr Terry Bright Ofosu, has opened up about a sobering moment in his career when some of his students asked him to delete their own dance videos from social media because they did not want to be seen.

Speaking on Hitz FM with Doreen Avio on May 28, 2026, the 1989 National Dance Champion described the incident as a turning point that clarified exactly why his work matters.

“It’s not about the fame and the popularity. I just want to change perspectives,” he said.

According to Dr Ofosu, the story unfolded during preparations for a departmental carnival. He and his team had posted clips from dance classes on social media to build awareness and generate an audience for the event.

However, some of his students did not appreciate the gesture.

“Those students came to me and said that they’ve seen their videos on social media and that I should pull them down because they do not want to be seen,” he recalled.

“That, for me, was the breaking point,” he added.

However, after he went viral following a video of him dancing that popped up on social media in May 2026, Dr Ofosu revealed that the clip began changing perceptions about dance education and gradually boosted the confidence of his students.

According to him, students who once felt shy about publicly identifying themselves as dance students at the university are now more confident about their programme.
