Ghanaian preacher Kwaku Agyei Antwi, popularly known as Rev Obofour, has offered advice to singles on choosing a life partner without undue influence from the church.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on March 19, 2026, Rev Obofour, while preaching to his congregation, cautioned singles against allowing the church to pressure or trap them into marriages they are unhappy with.

According to him, many divorce cases in the country stem from Christian marriages because couples often fail to truly understand each other before tying the knot.

“The church tells you that, before marriage, you shouldn’t talk too much or get to know each other deeply. But one painful thing in this world is allowing the church to lead you into marrying someone you don’t love. Don’t ever do that.

“Marriage is not about money; it’s about companionship—being with someone you can communicate with. Never be in a hurry to get married,” he said.

He further noted that many churches do not fully understand the true character of their members.

According to him, some individuals pretend to be someone they are not within the church to secure a life partner, only to reveal their true selves after marriage.

“Why is it that when the church leads people into marriage, some of these unions don’t last? It’s because they don’t truly know us or our character. They don’t know your real nature.

“The church may not know your personal lifestyle or preferences. So when you are matched with someone who doesn’t understand your true self, the marriage may not last,” he added.
