Demo against Volta Star Radio

Ho, July 11, GNA - A group calling itself the Concerned Citizens of Volta Region in collaboration with the Volta Region Students Association-Ghana (VORSAG) on Thursday, held a demonstration to register their displeasure about the current situation of Volta Star Radio in Ho. The demonstrators numbering about 150, amidst drumming and singing paraded through some principal streets of Ho with placards, some of which read "GBC Director General stop deceiving the public" "We have been neglected for too long", Volta MP's rise up to the task" and "Mr Minister we do not want recorded programmes".
The one-hour demonstration took the demonstrators from the Ho Central Market through the centre of town and ended at the Regional Co-ordinating Council, where a petition was presented to the President through the administration.
Presenting the petition, Mr Christopher Worlanyo Essikpe, VORSAG Chairman for Publicity and Education noted that the FM station had broken down for almost 15 weeks and the situation has since been growing from bad to worse. .
The petition among other things sought to question why the station had been operating on analogue for all these years, while almost all regional FM stations had gone digital.
Mr Emmanuel Ewusi, Emmim, Assistant Coordinating Director at the Regional Administration received the petition on behalf of the Regional Minister and promised that the administration would forward it to the President.
Another copy was also presented to the Director General of GBC through the Regional Director, Mr Ralph Avornyo. This is a follow up to a press conference organized by VORSAG a week earlier, concerning the same subject matter. July 11, 05
