Dear GhanaWeb,
I’ve been married to my husband for 4 months now. Ever since we got married till now, he has never bathed with a sponge. He only rinses himself under the shower, not even with soap.
Never for once has he touched himself with soap nor sponge; I’ve said all I can to convince him but it won’t work.
To me, he smells very bad and I’m sure he doesn’t smell good to others as well. He keeps giving excuses that he has lived abroad before and over there, they don’t bathe with sponge.
I’m really suffocating but I don’t know what to do to make him start bathing. He’s 44 and I’m 26 years old, so he doesn’t give me room to say a lot. He makes all the decisions, making it difficult for me to influence him.
He dresses nice but has this smell like a “decayed fish” on him and it’s in all his clothes as well. I want my man to smell nice.
Sometimes, I even feel like vomiting. The whole house has this bad smell; I’m struggling to get it out of the house.
I have no friends because he won’t let me talk to anyone and I don’t know anyone close to him to talk to, not even his parents. He claims they are dead.
The smell is very bad and I want a way to make him understand it is offensive. I want to ably convince him to correct the problem to help me enjoy the marriage.
I’m really suffocating living with him! I’m always happy when he’s not home.
I spoke to a friend about it and she said I should ask my husband if he is a ritualist because, sometimes, they are told not to bathe as a form of spiritual direction.
I did ask him about it and although the question sounded infuriating, he however replied he is not a ritualist. Nonetheless, I find it difficult to believe his reply because he’s rich.
I noticed his bad body odour while we were dating but it didn’t bother me very much because I thought it could be solved.
I bought a couple of perfumes for him but it still didn’t clear the unpleasant odour.
I didn’t also know he wasn’t working on his bad body smell; he just told me lies. What do I do to make him start bathing and smelling better?
