Dear GhanaWeb,
My husband passed away three years ago on the Winneba road. It was a tragic and painful loss. At the time, I had just delivered our youngest child, barely three months old.
We had been married for five years and were blessed with three children. His passing changed our lives forever. Things became difficult, and the little he left behind was exhausted within a year.
Though he was still struggling to establish himself, he had managed to save something that sustained us through the first year after his demise.
I will always love him for being caring and supportive, even in his absence. When the baby turned one, I began working as hard as I could. I started a small venture on the side and also took up teaching in a private school with my degree.
Life became manageable, at least enough for my children and me to have food and shelter. Early last year, however, I wanted to transfer the children to a more affordable school. Their father had enrolled them in a good school, but I could no longer afford the fees.
One day, my seven-year-old son returned from school with an envelope. He said a man had asked him to give it to me. Inside was GH₵20,000 in GH₵200 notes. My son didn’t know the man, and the only words he heard were: “Give it to your mother.”
I was stunned and overjoyed. I tried to trace the man but found no leads. With the money, I paid their fees and even enrolled the youngest in the same school.
A few months later, my son came home with another envelope, again containing GH₵20,000. This time, I decided to investigate with my mother. We were told it was my late husband supporting us. But a man added that since I now knew about the money, the support would stop.
It has been two months since, and no envelope has arrived. I am deeply worried because I truly need that support. Could it be true that the help will no longer come? What should I do now?
