Dear GhanaWeb,
I was married to a man, and everything seemed perfect for the first few years. After seven years of marriage, he did the unthinkable.
One Thursday morning, he left home, claiming he had a business assignment and would return in a week.
To my surprise, a lady friend called me the following Saturday to say she was at a wedding and the groom was my husband. I rushed to the wedding venue and found out it was true. I was devastated.
He apologised, explaining that his family had pressured him to marry her because I hadn't given him children, and he had a child with her that I was unaware of, though his family knew.
We separated since our marriage was traditional and went our separate ways. A few years later, he came back into my life, saying his new wife was making him uncomfortable and that he now regretted leaving me. Stupidly, I listened to him and gave him a second chance to make things right.
Despite my family and friends advising against it, we got back together. Shortly after, he brought up the idea of investing in real estate but needed a loan to start.
He asked if he could use my house as collateral. He convinced me it was a great opportunity, so I agreed.
The painful part is that after getting the loan, he didn't use the money for the real estate business. Instead, he used it to prepare documents for travelling abroad.
As I write this with tears in my eyes, he is now in Europe with the same woman he claimed was making his life difficult.
My parents never agreed to let me take him back, and they don't know about the collateral issue, as I didn't tell them.
Now, I am left with the burden of this debt, which keeps increasing due to interest. I'm lost and don't know how to pay it off.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I've made mistakes, but I'm heartbroken and don't know what to do.
FG/EB
