Dear GhanaWeb,
I am 23 years old and a Level 200 distance student. I have gotten involved with a 37-year-old woman who is now pregnant, and I am very confused and scared.
She was initially just a friend. She used to ask me to come to her house to help with chores and would give me money in return. One day, she began talking to me about sex, and eventually, we became intimate.
After that, we continued having sex regularly. She is single, so I assumed she only wanted a sexual relationship. This started around March last year.
After some time, I noticed her behavior began to change. She seemed more relaxed, slept a lot, and asked me to do more work whenever I visited. However, she also started giving me more money.
Whenever I asked if something was wrong, she would say she was not feeling well. She began visiting the hospital frequently and demanded less sex compared to before. At the same time, she started showing more care toward me and occasionally talked about children.
In January this year, I noticed her stomach had grown bigger when she asked us to have sex. I asked if she was pregnant, and she said she was not sure but that maybe she was. She told me not to worry because even if she was pregnant, she could take care of herself.
Last Saturday, when I went to fetch water for her because of the water crisis and helped her clean the house, she told me she is expecting a baby this month and is due soon. I was shocked.
She said she confirmed the pregnancy not long ago and even showed me the baby items she had bought. She made me help arrange the house and mentioned she is expecting a boy.
However, she has never clearly stated that the baby is mine. Whenever I ask, she tells me not to worry and that I should focus on my education. I have never seen her with another man. Her life appears to revolve around work and home.
Since I was the one having sex with her, I feel the baby could be mine, but I am not ready to be a father.
She called me last night to say she has booked a Caesarean section and will be going to the hospital soon, although I do not know the exact date.
I am scared and confused. Have I been trapped into having a baby? I am not ready for this responsibility. What if she asks me to support her and the child? Please, what should I do?
