Dancers in Ghana are not well paid – Robert Klah

Robert klah, a marketing professional and dancer has revealed that dancers in Ghana are not paid well for all the music videos they do and the magic they exhibit at festivals when they hit the grounds to dance.

In an exclusive interview with www.flexgh.com, Mr. Klah explained that though a few of the dancers are paid well for their experiences, majority of them are virtually not given anything for lack of experience, which is making it difficult for them to survive only on dancing or choreography as a career. This has made Project Coordinators to go for the less experienced ones for programmes, yet they don’t pay them well.

He further stated that, the dancing sector in Ghana’s entertainment industry is now growing which is even making some ambassadors in Ghana accept their craft by attending their concerts which shows a positive sign to them, and he believes very soon the dancing sector will get its recognition.

Mr. Robert Klah, the brain behind Dance Festival in Ghana again stated that dancers in Ghana are not getting the right treatment from the industry which is not making them acquire the luxuries the musicians are acquiring. He stressed that some organisations and event organisers organise programs without having any plans for dancers, but he believes with more hard work from them, they will surely make their mark.

He continued to urge the media to look their way to gain enough publicity so as to attract sponsorship from corporate bodies. This is because there are a lot of things happening in the dancing field but due to lack of publicity many people disbelieve their existence and perhaps conclude nothing is happening.

“For instance, Ghana was third in a dancing festival which was held in Calabar in Nigeria last year but no media hub talked or discussed it. Ghana was once again first in UK and no discussion went on in that regard,” he quickly said.

According to him, National Commission on Culture is putting things together to form a council that will focus on the welfare of the dancers which is called Dance Federation of Ghana. He believes with the help of the board, the dancing sector of the creative arts industry will be vibrant.

He finally appealed to the general public to support the dancing sector and has also requested for more events to showcase their talent and skills which will be able to fetch them some money to better their lives.
