Artiste manager and CEO of Media Excel Production, Kwesi Ernest, has claimed that the family of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba missed an opportunity to make about $6 million from his funeral.
Speaking in an interview on Onua TV on December 16, 2025, Kwesi Ernest disclosed that the proceeds could have been used to secure the future of the musician’s children and preserve his legacy.
“Lumba’s funeral was a fortune that the family could have made about $6 million over the funeral. The money would have helped the next generation’s education till they get to the university,” he said.
According to him, internal conflicts within the family led to the loss of the opportunity.
“Because of greed, hate and bitterness, they lost everything. Bitterness destroys everything,” he stated.

Kwesi Ernest further claimed that some individuals who were expected to attend the funeral chose to stay away out of bitterness, but their absence had no impact on the ceremony.
“The people who decided not to show up at the funeral did that out of bitterness, but their absence was not felt. Nothing happened when Papa Shee didn’t go to the funeral and no one even asked of him,” he noted.
He stressed that the most important people at the funeral were Daddy Lumba’s children, whom he described as the true legacy left behind by the musician.
“The most important people who were needed at the funeral were the children. His children were the legacy he left behind. If the children decided not to attend the funeral, that’s when they can say there’s no need to hold the funeral,” he added.
