DStv highlights in July

So what’s hot of DStv is the month of July? There’s plenty of entertainment for your viewing pleasure after the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa ends. Check out some of the highlights:

MAGIC MOVIES ON M-NET THIS JULY

Romance, comedy, drama and action is what M-Net promises viewers across Africa this month as the channel screens a host of international blockbuster movies throughout July.

If you the type of DStv viewer who loves a good thriller then STATE OF PLAY is a must this July. Premiering on Friday July 9 (23:59 CAT) it stars Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Jeff Daniels and Helen Mirren. In gritty complex thriller journalism, politics and integrity that comes under the spotlight. When an aide to prominent US Congressman Stephen Collins dies in what initially appears to be an accident, two journalists from the Washington Globe newspaper investigate when they obtain information that it may not have been an accident.

On Sunday July 11 (21:00 CAT) DStv audiences can tune in for the much anticipated premier of TERMINATOR SALVATION. Starring Christian Bale, Sam Worthington and Helena Bonham Carter this spectacular film filled with eye-popping action and heartbreaking drama. It chronicles the ongoing battle between man and machines, and how John Connor forms an alliance with a death row escapee so he can rescue his father and ensure the world’s survival. Set in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators.

On Sunday July 18 (21:00 CAT) Hugh Jackman returns to DStv screens as Wolverine in the action fantasy movie X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, which takes a dazzling look at a boy mutant who grows up into a fearsome soldier who uses his superhuman powers to fight evil. When he tries to opt out, a tragedy forces him back into the mutant game, where an operation turns him from super powerful to virtually indestructible. X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE also stars Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Lynn Collins, and Will.i.Am.

Another must see movie this month is STAR TREK. Airing on Sunday July 25 (21:00 CAT) this is the gripping prequel to the popular series which shows the growing friendship between hothead James T Kirk and half-Vulcan Spock as they enlist in the Starfleet Academy, then join the USS Enterprise to battle a ruthless villain with delusions of grandeur. This movie signifies the beginning of the STAR TREK phenomenon, so if you haven’t seen any of the movies in the series, tune in this July. You won’t be disappointed.

Other movies on M-Net this month include; FIRED UP!, SPRING BREAKDOWN, THE PACIFIC x, CHRISTMAS COTTAGE, THE UNINVITED, FRIDAY THE 13TH and THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT.

DStv audiences can tune in for these and other fantastic movies on M-Net throughout July.

CHANNEL O CHARTS AFRICA IN JULY

Known for showcasing Africa’s talent over the years, the continents’ leading and oldest music channel, Channel O, heats up July with a spectacular line-up of programming and audiences are invited to warm themselves up in front of the television as new episodes of 100% Naija, Goal Diggers, Stars Best and Xpress are screened on DStv channel 320.

100% NAIJA at 21:00 CAT is hosted by Liz Yemoja and features a different Nigerian city, getting the 411 on the vibe of each place and giving viewers a true taste of the Nigerian urban scene that has birthed a revolution in Nigerian music.

GOAL DIGGERZ which will be screened on Tuesdays at 21:00 CAT shows African football heroes in a way they have never been seen before. The show focuses on the player’s lives, where they live, what they drive, what they wear and eat.

The presenter Lungille Radu’s easy manner gets the footballers to open up their private lives and let Africa see how they live and work. DStv viewers get to check out their homes, what’s in their fridges, wardrobes and bathroom cabinets.

Goal Diggerz moves across Europe showing the wide variety of players living and working there, from Greece to Sweden, Holland, Spain and the UK. One of the aims of the show is to give aspiring soccer stars a glimpse of life that will motivate them to train and practice to become just like their heroes, another is to show the human side of living and working abroad.

On July 11 at 19:00 CAT, XPRESS: Kelly Rowland in South Africa catches up with the songstress and chats with her while she was in South Africa filming her famous World Cup song which features some of Africa’s finest musicians. Channel O presenter Enhle got the mega scoop with the singing sensation.

Also in the show, Amplified chats to Skwatta Kamp’s Slikour, Awadi from Senegal, Samini from Ghana and Nigeria’s 2Face who all feature in the video.

2Face is featured in STARS BEST 10: on July 15 at 12:00 CAT. The award winning singer and songwriter selects his current favourite top 10 videos. The program was shot on location of his video shoot for Possibility with P Square.

Later in the day, Darey versus Loyiso is screened at 20:30 CAT. The two artists being compared are smooth brothas from different ends of the earth, yet have the same ability . . . to sing well.

Videos from both artists are played and audiences are left to decide on their own as to who the king of R&B is.

STARS BEST on July 29 at 12:00 CAT catches up with the other half of Jozi, Ishmael during a video shoot for their track Africa which was shot in Ghana. Ish takes time out from the shoot as well as at the Ghana Music Awards to talk about his top 10 music videos.

The last highlight to look out for this month is 100% KENYA on July 30 at 20:30. The show is a 30 minute special that screens the best music videos from Kenya.

With the variety of programming to choose from this month, Channel O surely brings the best in music.
