DJ Abio Resigns From Channel ‘R’

Bearded Radio presenter, musician and statistician, DJ ‘Abodwese’ Abio (real name Stanley Nyame) has resigned from his North Dzorwulu based Radio station Channel of Righteousness (Channel R) after several attempts made by his employers to retain him at the station, proved futile.

DJ Abio resigned live on air about a month ago on one of his Monday editions of ‘205’ Total Entertainment, on ‘Channel R’. He bade farewell to his listeners and told them that was going to be the last day his voice would be heard on the station.

Abio, who confirmed this in an exclusive interview with peacefmonline.com, also disclosed that his resignation was largely based on some managerial and spiritual factors.

According to him, a week after he resigned on air, management of the station arranged several meetings in an attempt to prevail on him to change his mind, adding that "this time is for real".

"this is not the first time something like this has happened," he stated.

The bearded DJ said, he even went back to the station, when the issue was being resolved, but nothing really changed, "so this time" he is "gone for good."

DJ Abio is one of the foremost Christian Disc Jockeys and has been working with ‘Channel R’ since it was established ten years ago. He is the host of one of the first entertainment discussion programs on radio. Code named ‘205’ Total Entertainment’, the program airs on ‘Channel R’ every Monday 10am-12pm, Wednesdays 10am-12pm and just recently on Fridays at the same time. He also used to host “Kente Rythms” and other programs.

Abio, who was cooling off at home when peacefmonline caught up with him, alleged that "management of the Channel R have not been fair" to him and he is "simply not happy working there anymore."

Asked what could make him change his mind, he said “I will only go back on condition that the management of the station offers me a brand new four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle, pays me a cash amount of GH¢60,000 and lastly, dismisses some three people from the station.”

He said he wanted Kofi Appiah, the station's current morning show host; Agyemang Prempeh (Agyingo) a presenter at the station and Frederick (Unconcern) to be sacked, because the three are fighting against him spiritually at the Christian Station. He also stated that more than 10 Pastors and Men of God have warned him to be careful about people around him.

"For now," he said "i'm having a ball at home."

Asked if he intends working with another radio station, he answered “Well, for now I am enjoying my necessary break. I feel very relaxed and I like it, so I want to relax for now.”

Meanwhile, Agyeman Prempeh also known as Agyingo has been hosting the "205 Total Entertainment" programme in Abio's absence.

Even though he has not written any official resignation letter, the now "unemployed" ‘Abodwese’ man has been off air for almost a month now. He refused to write a resignation letter because according to him "the station didn’t give him any appointment letter when he was employed to work there, so if he has decided to resign why should he write a letter to them?" he asked.
