D’banj Swerves Vodafone In Ghana

Nigerian Singer D’banj swerved Telecommunication Giant in Ghana, Vodafone, and patrons of the company during the 1st Anniversary celebration concert in Accra, last Saturday, May 22, 2010 when he failed to turn up at the well publicized Vodafone “020 Live” concert.

The “Fall In Love” singer whose name was used to advertise the event as a headline artiste along with P-Square from Nigeria, was nowhere near the stage or even Ghana on the night he was billed to perform, whiles no official reason has been assigned for his absence.

Prior to the main event, at a press conference held by the organizers, Rockster 4000, Peacefmonline Entertainment reporter Eugene Osafo-Nkansah asked of the whereabouts of D’banj, the C.E.O of Rockster 4000, Jandre Louw, said “Yes D’banj is not in Ghana yet, but we are still trying to mobilize him to perform on the show as we promised. There are some challenges from another show on the other side of Nigeria. So we will keep you posted on that one,” he told media men present at the Africa Regent Hotel.

Tried as they did, it seems the organizers could not "mobilize" D’banj to Ghana as they promised and his numerous fans in Ghana, who attended the show were visibly disappointed. When peacefmonline contacted the Manager of D’banj in Nigeria, Sunday Are of Mo Hits Records, he denied knowledge of any show D’banj is supposed to perform in Ghana.

Sunday told peacefmonline that “it was rather the Mo Hits “All Star” made up of Wande Coal, IKechuku, K-Swish, Omo Baba and J-Martins who have been contracted to perform on the “020 Live” show in Ghana.

"Nobody has contacted D’banj to perform in Ghana, and there is no way D’banj could perform on that show because he has signed as a Globacom (Glo) ambassador in Nigeria. If it has been announced in Ghana that D’banj will be there, then the organizers have misinformed Ghanaians...D’banj was not part of the deal,” Sunday Are explained.

Meanwhile all the other artiste including P-Square and the Mo Hits All stars from Nigeria, Sarkodie, 4x4, Ruff and Smooth, Eassy, Richie and Tiffiny from Ghana were all present to perform for their fans, though the night ended without the “Koko Master” performing.

So who deceived the fans of D’banj who paid GH¢40 (Regular) and GH¢80(VIP) to come and watch their star? Only time will tell.
