“D Black not spoken to me after comments on Vera”

Video director, Pascal Aka has stated that hip-hop artiste, Desmond Black, popularly known as D Black has not spoken to him after a publication quoted him to have said he did not like the latter’s Vera song yet he directed the video.

“I won’t lie to you, I will say it right now. D-black’s Vera, I did not like that at all but because it was popular, because of the movement around it I had to jump on it and it was success. Vera was very popular, people liked the video and I got lots of business from it,” he was reported to have said on Pluzz FM.

Speaking on the same platform last Monday, Pascal who was making a submission on musicians taking credit for music videos during award ceremonies at the expense of directors became economical with information regarding the identity of an artiste who took credit for a video he shot.

“Award shows do not give us recognition at all… In movie awards, when you win Best Editing, the editors get the awards… but the 4Syte TV, Best Editing; come see the artiste jumping around. They didn’t edit nothing.

The first time a video I directed won an award, I’m going to be careful if I mention something, you will use it as a headline,” he said.

Adding: “The last time, you wrote a headline, ‘Pascal Aka hates D Black’s Vera even though he directed the video’, that thing pain me. I sent a message to D Black right away since then he hasn’t spoken to me.”

Pascal Aka continued that the award schemes do not recognise video directors because the trophy goes to the musician who owns the music video.

“I got a nomination at 4Syte TV, when the video won the award, I went on stage and the stage was full and I told myself, ‘Who are all these people?’… Music video directors are not recognised at all. Every time a music video comes out, the music does not mention the name of the director. Mention his name, at least you didn’t pay the person properly,” he said.
