Culture Festival Diaspora NGO to organize “London Damba 2012” Festival

City Face Limited, an international NGO interested in promoting the Ghanaian culture abroad, is to organize a festival dubbed: “London Damba 2012 Festival” in London.

The festival, which is scheduled to take place later in September this year, is being supported by the Ministry of Tourism, and the Northern Regional House of Chiefs with the objective to promote the rich culture of northern Ghana in particular and the entire country as a whole to the outside world.

It will also serve as a platform to highlight major cultural activities of all ethnic groups in Northern Ghana.

Mr Abdulai Abdul-Fatahi, Director of City Face Limited, who announced this at a media briefing in Tamale, noted that not much had been said about the rich culture of the country to the outside world.

Mr Abdul-Fatahi said the country’s culture had the potential to help Ghana to attain a full middle income economy if properly promoted to the outside world.

He, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture to take steps to promote the country’s rich culture to the outside world.

He noted that northern Ghana had a rich and unique tradition and culture, which could help reduce poverty and foster unity in the savannah regions of the country and called for appropriate measures to market it externally.

He stated that many of the conflicts in the North would be no more if the country made good use of the various cultural activities of the north since this would find work for idle hands.

Abdul-Fatahi added that ending conflicts in the north would help attract tourists and investment to the savannah areas to ensure development and improvement in the standard of living of the people.

He, therefore, entreated all Ghanaians in London and other countries, particularly those from the North to patronize the festival.

He commended Mr Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Communications, and the Northern Regional Coordinating Council for their zeal and commitment towards the London Damba 2012 festival.
