Court remands woman for causing harm

Tarkwa (W/R), July 16, GNA - A 25-year old seamstress, Linda Brew was remanded in prison custody for pouring pepper solution onto her rival and her three-month old baby by a Tarkwa circuit court. Her plea was not taken and the court, presided over by Mr. Bright Dzebre ordered the accused to re-appear on July 22, 2003.

Prosecuting, Inspector Constance Addo of Tarkwa Police said the complainant, Joyce Cobbina, 26, is a trader living at Agona Nkwanta, near Takoradi, and the accused, the second wife, is living with their husband at Tamso near Tarkwa.

Inspector Addo said the complainant on reaching the house, the husband, Mr Michael Mensah was not there and the accused gave her a cold reception.

This led to exchange of words and in the process the husband appeared and calmed them down and arranged for Cobbina to spend the night with a relative at Bankyim, near Tarkwa.

Inspector Addo said, the following morning, Cobbina decided to bid the husband farewell before leaving for Agona Nkwanta.

The accused, having prepared the pepper solution already welcomed the complainant with a quarrel and in the process, poured it on the rival and the three-month old baby.

A next door neighbour went to the rescue of Cobbina and the accused was arrested.

The complainant and the baby have since been treated and discharged at Tarkwa Government Hospital.
