Court remands taxi driver for alleged defilement

Cape Coast, Jan. 27, GNA - A Cape Coast Circuit court on Friday, remanded Kweku Amankwah 20, a taxi driver into prison custody for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl. He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on Thursday, February 8. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr Justice Beresford Acquah that, on December 27, last year, the victim who lived with her father at Assin Praso travelled to Mankessim for the Yuletide and on arrival at the Ajumako lorry station met the accused who picked her to his house at Bafikrom near Mankessim. He said the accused detained the victim in his room for three days, during which he defiled her and released her later. The prosecution said the victim went home and narrated her ordeal to her father, who reported the matter to the police. He said the victim was issued with medical form to attend hospital and report from Saltpond Government Hospital indicated that she had been defiled and her hymen broken. The accused was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence.
