Court remands farmer for stealing

Kumawu (Ash), May 6, GNA - A circuit court at Kumawu on Thursday remanded a 27-year-old farmer from Wonoo for stealing imported wax prints valued at five million cedis. Richard Acheampong, the accused, pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear on May 13.

Police Inspector Anthony Godfred Sekyi told the court that last year, Nana Pokuaa, the complainant, the grandmother of the accused, gave the key to her room at Kumawu to one Acheampong, a brother of the accused for safe keeping since she was travelling. Insp. Sekyi said the accused took the key from where it was kept and opened the room of the complainant and stole the wax prints and returned the key to where he took it.

Insp Sekyi said when Madam Pokuaa returned from her journey, she realised that her wax prints had been stolen and all efforts to find them failed.

He said on April 27, this year, Madam Pokuaa reported the accused to the police after he attempted to steal some items in her room. Insp Sekyi said the accused upon interrogation admitted that he stole the wax print and sold them in Kumasi but he could not lead the

police to the buyer when he was sent there. He said later, the accused lead the police to one Kwabena Owusu at Kumawu who admitted that he bought some of wax prints from the accused.
