Court grants five farmers bail for causing damage to school

Ejisu (Ash), April 26, GNA - The Ejisu district court on Wednesday granted five farmers of Bamang near Bonwire in the Ejisu-Juaben district 10 million cedis each for causing damage. They all pleaded guilty to the charge and will re-appear on April 29.

They are Adwoa Adiyiaa, 30, Osei Kwadwo, 32, Afua Badu, 30, Adwoa Pobi, 29, and Kudjo, 34.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Simon Peter Akabati told the court that on March 28, this year, the accused persons went to the Prosper International School at Bamang and vandalised the whole school structure, during which, property worth about 30 million cedis were destroyed.

Inspector Akabati said the complainant, Pastor Jerry Kwasi Owusu, the headteacher of the school, who made a report to the police claimed that the accused persons did not produce any documents to show that the land on which the school was situated was their property, neither was the school issued with any quit order, which they disregarded.

According to the prosecutor, when the accused persons were invited to the police station, they refused to turn up and so criminal summons were served on them to appear in court. 26 April 04
