Court fines security men for stealing tyres.

Tema, June 15, GNA - Two security men of Lovely Transport Company at Kpone barrier and a scrap dealer all from Ashaiman who stole 24 new articulator tyres have been sentenced to a fine of 20 million cedis each by the Tema Circuit Court 'A'.

John Alamartey, John Akolbilah and Edward Fenu who pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to steal and stealing will go to jail for six years each if they failed to pay the fine.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on April 3, 2003, Alamartey consulted other night security men of the company to steal seven new articulator tyres from the stores, but they refused.

On April 5, at about 2300 hours, an Opel Kadet saloon car pulled up at the entrance of the company and Fenu and two others who are on the run came out from the car and Alamartey invited Fenu and the other two into the premises of the company.

Inspector Otchere said the two security men told other security men on duty that Fenu and his accomplices were there to open the stores with a special key to enable them steal the tyres without being noticed.

The other security men objected, but the two security men threatened them with a gun; and out of fear for their lives, the loyal security men allowed them to carry on with the operation.

Inspector Otchere said the men brought by Fenu then opened the store with the special keys and all the accused entered the stores and stole 24 new articulator tyres.

On April 6, the two accused security men went to the house of a witness in the case and warned him that if he dared reveal the secret, they would kill him.

The following day, Alamartey gave 2.5 million cedis to a witness who informed the Managing Director of the Company of the incident, a report was made to the police and the three accused persons were arrested.
