Court Adjourns Shaka Zulu’s Case

The Accra High Court on Tuesday adjourned the criminal case against the Ghanaian musician and boxer, Richard Cobbina, alias ‘Shaka Zulu,’ and three others, who are standing trial for robbery due to the absence of the trial judge.

The state prosecution in the case was expected to conclude its case on the trial for the accused persons to open their defence on the charges leveled against them.

They are to re-appear on June 15, this year for the state prosecution to conclude its case and for the accused persons to open their defence.

The court explained that the trial judge, Mr. Justice Charles Quist, was on an equally important national assignment and requested that all cases be re-rescheduled to dates convenient to the court. ‘Shaka – Zulu’ and his accomplices were arrested by the police and charged with two counts each for conspiracy to commit crime, to wit robbery and robbery, contrary to the Criminal Offences Act 1960 of Act 29.

The three other accused persons are Wise Grey, alias Biggy, Owusu Achempong, alias Old School, and Abass Alhassan, alias Benin Boy. They pleaded not guilty to the charges and have been placed in the prison custody for trial after their lawyers tried on several occasions to get hem bail failed.

‘Shaka Zulu’ and his accomplices allegedly raided the residence of the Nigerians and robbed them of their laptops and personal belongings at the Sprintex Road in Accra.

The victim of the robbery mustered courage to pursue them in a car after they attacked and over powered Owusu Achempong a.k.a Old School with the assistance of residents and handed him over to the police.

It was through investigation that Achempong led police to the arrest of ‘Shaka-Zulu’, Wise Grey, while Abass Alhasan was arrested in a different robbery operation at Dansoman, a suburb of Accra.

When a search was conducted at Abass’s hideout, the police found and retrieved all the items, except the money, that the accused robbed from the victim at Spintex Road.

The accused persons in their caution statements admitted to the offence and said they were recruited by an unnamed friend who alleged that the victim defrauded him and he wanted them to teach the victim a lesson.**
