Marriage counsellor, George Lutterodt, has been released after being detained by the Ghana Police Service for questioning over allegations of inciting violence.
Reports on March 9, 2026, indicated that the counsellor had been taken into custody for engaging in conduct deemed capable of causing unrest in the community.
According to authorities, Lutterodt’s actions were considered likely to disturb public peace.
In a video shared following his release, Counsellor Lutterodt explained that he had been handcuffed because the police required a photograph of him in custody.

“They told me they needed a picture, so they took a picture of me in handcuffs,” he said.
He recounted what he did immediately after leaving the detention centre, emphasising his relief and gratitude.
“When I left the detention centre, I came first to church, I walked to the altar to tell God thank you that my arrest was not anybody’s prayer point and I would not believe that whatever I went through was emanated by anybody,” Lutterodt stated.
The arrest followed Lutterodt’s controversial public statements urging Ga youth to take pickaxes to a residence in East Legon and exhume the body of the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.
Police confirmed that he had been detained for allegedly inciting violence and engaging in offensive conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, citing provisions under the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).
Lutterodt had encouraged the youth not to wait for police action, instead telling them to take matters into their own hands.
