Kofi Owusu, the family head of the late Ghanaian Highlife music icon, Daddy Lumba, has claimed that the Manhyia Palace has given him the go-ahead to hold the musician's final funeral ceremony on December 13, 2025.
In a video shared on Instagram, Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu stated that he, along with some members of the late musician’s immediate family, visited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on December 8, 2025, to formally announce the final burial date.
According to him, although they did not get the opportunity to meet the Asantehene, the chiefs present gave him the approval to proceed with the burial on December 13, 2025.
‘Whether you like it or not, he will be buried on December 13’ – Lumba’s father asserts
“We purposely went to invite Otumfuo to the burial, but he couldn’t come down. However, the elders and chiefs told me to go ahead and organise the funeral,” he said.
However, the Akosua Serwaa faction has claimed that the Asantehene has not given approval for the funeral yet, contrary to what is being purported by the Abusuapanyin.
Speaking to the media after the meeting at the Manhyia Palace, members of the Lumba family aligned with the ‘Akosua Serwaa’ camp also indicated that the Otumfuo has scheduled another meeting for Thursday, December 11.
According to reports, the Asantehene was displeased with the short notice with which the Abusuapanyin informed him about the proposed December 13 funeral date, and therefore did not accept the items presented to officially announce the date.

Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, in a rebuttal, has taken to social media refute the claims.
“I have heard people spreading some rumours, but I want all of you to debunk those claims because they are only throwing dust into your eyes.
“Whatever I say is final, so the burial is on December 13, 2025. I am the one the chiefs have given the mandate to organise the funeral ceremony,” he added.
