Community inaugurates Theatre Company

Kete Krachi (V/R), July 6, GNA - The Krachi Theatre Company, comprising choral, drama and cultural display groups was last Monday inaugurated under the auspices of the Centre for National Culture.

Inaugurating the Company, Mr. William Addo Volta Regional Director of Centre for National Culture stated that theatre had proven to be an impressive tool for communication and education as well as dissemination of information in the absence of radio or television.

He said the Centre For National Culture is an organization mandated to collect and preserve the cultural heritage of the country for the purposes of education, adding that any nation that want to develop must lift up its culture.

Mr. Addo noted that the region was blessed with rich and vibrant culture in terms of music, dance and drama and called on all and sundry to preserve the rich heritage of the region.

He lamented that lack of funds by the Centre had left many theatre groups to struggle for survival. Mr. Addo therefore appealed to the Karachi West District Assembly to support the Theatre Company as its property. He seized the opportunity to launch the Volta Regional Festival Of Arts and Culture.

Mr. Scholastic Larnyo, Krachi District Officer of the Centre said the Theatre Company embraced most of the cultural activities within various ethnic groups in the district, which showcase a very important aspect of their culture.

He called on all citizens of the district and the Assembly to come to the aid of the Company in order to put up a splendid performance next month when Kete-Krachi hosts the Regional Cultural Festival. Mr. Larnyo expressed the hope that the Theatre Company would foster unity among the people to create the enabling environment for the needed development of the district.

In another development, Mr. William Addo, the Volta Regional Director of the Centre, popularly known in theater circles as 'Akpatse' was involved in an accident on the Dambai-Krachi road. He sustained injury on the neck and the waist. He is on admission at the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Addo's vehicle in which he was traveling burst its two front tyres and somersaulted. Three other persons in the car sustain various degrees of injuries and are on admission at the Krachi government hospital.
