Ghanaian stand‑up comedian Foster Romanus has opened up about the financial state of comedy in Ghana, stating that while the industry is growing, it still has a long way to go before comedians can afford the kind of luxury lifestyle enjoyed by entertainers in other creative sectors.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM with Doreen Avio, the popular comedian was asked directly whether comedy pays.
“Currently, it is paying. But we are yet to get to the point where one of us can say, ‘I bought a yellow Lamborghini.’ It is about time we are paid enough to buy a Lambo off the street,” he said, drawing laughter.

On the subject of his own appearance fees, Foster Romanus revealed that his charges are flexible depending on the client and the occasion.
“I don’t have a fixed amount, but I can take about 20k, 50k, or 100k, depending on who is coming,” he explained.
He added with a quip: “If it is President Mahama, I will do it for free.”
