The 80th Asafotufiami Festival was launched at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Monday, June19 with a host of dignitaries present.

The Asafotufiami Festival of the people of the Ada Traditional Area in the Dangme East District is a rich cultural heritage celebrated annually in the first week of August. This year’s will begin on August 3.

The Festival is a remembrance of the wars fought by ancestors as they wander to settle, hence the name Asafotufiami.

Asafotu as the name implies, is company firing of musketry.

The celebration is mainly in remembrance of the invaluable achievements of the founding fathers and ancestors in mainly wars of surviving and development of Ada. This year’s anniversary is a special one as it marks the 80th anniversary milestone and also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the enstoolment of Nene Abram Kabu Akuaka III, Paramount Chief of the Ada Traditional Area.

The main event will be held at Ada on August 3-10, 2017 and is expected to be attended by highly ranked dignitaries including diplomats and representatives of foreign missions in Ghana.
