Citi FM continues to show the way

Staff of Accra based Citi 97.3 FM supported by some volunteers were back at the Baptist Complex Schools & Orphanage In Suhum last Monday to spend the Easter Monday with the children in the home.

The station has decided to spend the Easter Monday every year with the kids at Baptist Complex, in fulfillment of the station’s commitment to promote philanthropy and a sense of responsibility for the less privileged.

Dubbed the ‘Easter Orphan Project’, CitiFM donated items worth millions of cedis and a cheque of twenty five million cedis to the orphanage. Items donated include beverages, bottled and sachet water, bags of rice, used clothing, biscuits, detergents, books, soaps etc made available by corporate bodies and individuals.

Some of the major donors include Coca-Cola, STIF Gh. Ltd., Parlays Biscuit, Piccadilly, Aqua-In and Aqua Fill Mineral Water; as well as individuals.

Receiving the items, the founder of the Orphanage, Rev. Victor Amoah said the orphanage is extremely privileged to have been adopted by Citi FM, which has over the last three years been supporting them with donations and financial support.

He disclosed that due to the station’s on-air campaigns, the orphanage which is located in the thick forests of Suhum and completely isolated from the Suhum Township, has moved from obscurity into the lime light and are now receiving support from various bodies. He cited the building of a boys’ washroom facility for the school by Barclays Bank as one of the fruits of Citi FM’s campaign of support for them.

Speaking to the dailyEXPRESS, Ag Programs Manager of Citi FM, Nii Armah Dagadu said the station chose the Suhum orphanage because others have had enough exposure and it was time to bring the plight of less known orphanages to the fore.

He said they chose Easter Monday because it is a time when traditionally, people spend time with their families and it was prudent to spend time with the orphans who had no immediate families to spend time with and make a difference in their lives.

A medical outreach team from Harvest Chapel was also on hand to conduct a medical screening on the children at the orphanage.
