Citi FM chalks 10 years in industry, rivals visit with cake

When the Managing Director of Citi FM, Samuel Attah-Mensah and his crew decided to launch a new radio station in the capital, there must have been some apprehension but 10 years on Samens as he is affectionately called can bear a smile as his baby blossoms even becoming the reference point when it comes to the discussion of social, political, sports, business and entrainment issues.

With Richard Dela Sky, Shamima Moslem (although she’s been missing for a while), Pearl Akanya Ofori, Eugenia Tenkorang, Sammy Wiafe, Umaru Sander Amadu and Richard Mensah in the newsroom, it is little wonder that Eye Witness News is the source many quote when it comes to news.

With Bernard Koku Avle captaining the morning show with the crew of Godfred Akoto Boafo, Kojo Akoto Boateng, Nana Ama and Sky, mornings in the capital have taken on a different yet pleasant flavouring despite strong competition from rivals including Joy FM which took time off to visit and congratulate the team which has given its own folks so much sleepless nights.

With Gary Al-smith, Godfred Akoto Boafo, Nathan Quao, Benjamin Nketia, manning the sports desk, it isn’t surprising that within short period of time the crew managed to effect a coup d’état in the capital and country such that local and foreign media outlets have seen the wisdom of tapping into the immense gifts of Al-Smith, Akoto and Quao.

With Jessica Opari Saforo, Nana Kwame and Dj Armani as entertainment prefects, how can you not be swayed with sweet music selection and info tips just for the edification of fans.

The station does not neglect it religious duties as pastor Wengam shores up that department not to forget their Sunday poetry show which is gaining ground serving as the market place for those with artistic inclination and those who appreciate the offerings.

On their visit, officials from the Kokomlemle based station described Citi FM as a reputable media institution that has achieved a lot within its ten years of existence.



With presentation of a cake to the station, Kofi Ansah, Director of News Programming at Joy FM added “…you are reputable media institution that has achieved a lot within your ten years of existence and we felt it very important to celebrate this milestone with you so that’s why we visited you to basically celebrate with you and to congratulate you on your 10th anniversary.”

The Adabraka station was recently awarded the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Media Organization of the Year Award – 2013. One of the station’s flagship programme, the Citi Breakfast Show was also named the CIMG radio programme of the year.
