Choreographer faults organisers for awarding video directors

David Gamadi David Gamadi

David Gamadi popularly known as Chello, leader of Ghana's topmost dance group, 4 Bent has hinted at the absence of fairness in some award schemes in the country.

He has questioned award organisers' decision to present the 'Best Choreography' award to music video directors instead of the personalities who created or designed the craft thus, the choreographers.

His comment comes few days after the release of nominees in the 'Best Choreography' category of the 4Syte TV Music Video Awards 2016 which again had no choreographer nominated.

In a video shared on Thursday, the choreographer, who has together with his group worked with the likes of Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and many more asked whether the directors are dancers while adding that it "is madness."

"These directors who direct video, are they dancers? Have they even choreographed a dance before? Sometimes I don't get this. You people shouldn't think we are fools - we are not fools. How can you give 'Best Choreography' and a director will go for the award. This is madness," he stated.

He however mentioned that "I don't even blame them. I blame those event organisers who organise these awards. Because you are giving the 'Best Choreography' and a dancer is not there [nominated]."

When GlammyNews.com contacted him via phone for more clarification, he noted that "almost all the dancers are concerned about this development. We are not happy about what is going on."

When quizzed about what dancers want event organisers to do, he noted that "we just want them to acknowledge the dancers too because its a music video program - they award musicians and directors and we are all part of this."

He also advised that if such acts are not corrected, "very soon they [directors] won't offer them services because its high time dancers stand up.
