Celebration of Valentine should bring peace and love to mankind- Revellers

Accra, Feb. 14, GNA - With the political turmoil across the globe, a cross-section of Ghanaians believe that the celebration of Valentine Day should be used to create peace and love and not the encouragement of immoral acts.

They advocated the preaching of the Gospel to save more souls for Jesu= s Christ, a survey by the Ghana News Agency in the Accra Business District revealed. Some traders said sale of items for the celebration were low compared to last year.

Mrs Ernestina Gyan, Manageress, Codams Company Limited noted that the patronage of valentine items were very low as compared to last year. However, she expressed the hope that people would patronise the items before the end of the day.

Mrs Grace Nunoo, another trader, said the youth had changed the meanin= g of the celebration which was supposed to be a period of exchanging gifts to engage in immoral acts.

"The youth have made the celebration to look immoral with the upsurg= e in sexual promiscuity, instead of showing love and compassion to the less privileged in the society- the tenets of the celebration," she added. Master Michael Abayateye, a student said he had no intention of celebrating the Day 93because it's true meaning has been changed from go= od to bad by most people, especially the youth". He expressed shock about the alleged shortage of condoms during the celebration and urged the youth to desist and repent from such acts.
