COSGA claims over one billion cedis from Oversight Committee

Accra, May 28, GNA - An Accra High Court is set to hear a case in which the Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA) is seeking a refund of more than one billion cedis from the members of the erstwhile COSGA Oversight Committee.

In a writ filed at an Accra High Court on Tuesday, COSGA is praying the court to declare as illegal the management of the affairs of the Society during the period 1998 to 2001 when the Oversight Committee acted on behalf of the Society. The defendants are Mr Faisal Helwani, Chief Executive Officer of Bibini Music Productions, Mr Ebow Hawkson, former Chairman of the National Commission for Culture, Mr Kwesi Agyapong and Mr Rex Boateng a music producer.

The statement is further claiming from the first defendant, Mr Helwani an amount of 16 million cedis being total levies accruing from punitive levies he allegedly received on behalf of COSGA, but which were not paid into the Society's account. The writ is also seeking to compel Mr Helwani to repair and put into good working condition the Society's vehicle as well as ensure that it was returned to the Society. The plaintiffs are also seeking an order for a perpetual injunction restraining the Mr Helwani from meddling in COSGA's activities. 28 May 05
