Bulldog granted bail, Lawyer confirms

Reports reaching GhanaWeb Entertainment Desk indicates that manager of 2014 VGMA Artiste of the Year, Shatta Wale, Nana Asiama Hanson (Bulldog); who was arrested by the police for the murder of Fennec Okyere, a music producer and manager of Kwaw Kese, has been granted bail.

Bulldog, who is also the CEO of Bull Haus Entertainment, was picked up by Ghana police on May 15 at Kokomlemle, a suburb of Accra, as a prime suspect in the death of Fennec Okyere who was murdered at his residence on March 13, 2014.

ASP Joseph Benefoh Darkwa, the Public Relations Officer of the Police CID, had indicated that the prime suspect, Bulldog had sent threatening messages to Fennec prior to his death.

On Monday, May 19, 2014, Bulldog made his first appearance in court at an Accra Magistrate Court and was remanded in police custody to reappear in court on June 2.

The prosecution asked permission to remand the suspect to enable the police further their investigations. According to the prosecution, his detention would go a long way to assist police investigations due to the sensitive nature of the case.

However, lawyer for Bulldog, Gary Nimako objected to calls for his client (Bulldog) to be remanded in police custody. He had argued that the charges leveled against his client, thus, conspiracy to commit murder and committing murder cannot hold because the prosecution had not been able to link his client (Bulldog) to Fennec’s murder.

Lawyer for Bulldog, Gary Nimako confirmed to Myjoyonline.com that his client has been granted bail, “Bulldog has been granted bail,” he said.

The acceptance to grant the prime suspect (Bulldog) bail was due to the efforts of lawyers for Bulldog who took the matter to the Human Rights Court after the District Magistrate Court had refused to grant him bail on May 19.

The Human Rights Court on the basis of the facts presented by the police upon which they were holding Bulldog were described as ‘speculative’ and did not link him to the charges labeled against him granted him bail on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.

On this basis, the Human Rights Court ruled that Bulldog deserves his freedom and should not have been held even for a day. “The police ought to have granted him police enquiry bail”, the court added.
