Music executive and producer Kwesi Ernest has described the government's decision to allocate funds to the creative arts sector as a sign of deliberate thinking at the highest levels of leadership.

Speaking to GhanaWeb’s Isaac Dadzie at the nominees announcement ceremony for the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), Kwesi Ernest reflected on what he described as a buoyant 2025 music industry.

He noted that top artistes have taken their careers into their own hands by establishing their own events without relying on external support.

“The 2025 music industry was very buoyant. Almost all the top artists in GH, all of them now have an established event show on their own. And that for me is one of the hallmarks. The artistes themselves are not waiting for any promoter of any sort.

“It's been very buoyant, and it shows that the creative sector is growing. Even though we have limited resources from the government,” he said.

In 2025, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, stated that GH₵40 million had been allocated to the creative arts sector, with GH₵20 million going specifically to the movie industry and another GH₵20 million going directly to the broader creative arts sector.

This was reiterated by President John Dramani Mahama at the 2026 State of the Nation Address.

Kwesi Ernest expressed satisfaction with the allocation, stating that President John Mahama's administration had shown seriousness with the allocation.

“That should tell you that there's some kind of thinking going on at the cabinet level. That tells you how the creative art space and the music industry is growing,” he said.
