Blind Talent Show launched in Accra

Accra, July 16, GNA - Mr Offei Afari, Chief Executive Officer of Spring Consult, an event organization, on Friday launched Blind Talent Show in Accra to unearth their talents.

Under the theme: 93Our Talent Lies Within", it is to show the world all the talents the blind has to offer.

Audition begins in August. The show is scheduled for October at Alliance Francaise.

Mr Afari said the Show to run for weeks was to improve their economic status and create livelihood for them through gainful employment in addition to other social needs and an attempt to take blind people off the streets.

He appealed to government, organisations and individuals for assistance to the physically challenged in efforts to take them away from the streets and eliminate problems associated with their predicaments.

Mr Kwesi Jonah, Head of the Department of Political Science, University of Ghana, Legon, said the visually impaired should not be considered a burden, but rather a pool of untapped talents, with such talented musicians such as Steve Wonder, Onipa Nua and others.

Mr Samuel Jackson Sackey, member of Ghana Union of the Blind (GUB) stressed the need to integrate the visually impaired into the society for socio-economic development.

Mr Kodua Boateng Acheampong and Mr Godwin Adoye, both visually impaired shared their experiences as role models for the blind.
