Coordinator of the Black Star Experience, Rex Omar, has clarified that the initiative is not a single event but a broader national brand covering Ghana’s creative economy, culture and tourism ecosystem.

According to him, the Black Star Experience serves as a flagship platform through which Ghana presents its culture, creativity, tourism and other sectors to the global community.

Speaking to the media at the Ghana Diaspora Town Hall Meeting at the Osu Castle Gardens, Rex Omar said the initiative has often been misunderstood as a single entertainment event.

“They think Black Star Experience is a single event. It’s not an event. Black Star Experience is a flagship brand for the entire creative economy, culture and tourism ecosystem. Everything, so Ghana is marketing itself to the global world as a Black Star,” he said.

He explained that the name draws from Ghana’s own identity, including the Black Star on the national flag, the Black Stars football team and the Black Star Square.

“Our sports, our football team is called the Black Star. We have a Black Star Square. So Black Star Experience is a flagship banner for everything that has to do with the creative economy, tourism, culture and everything,” he added.

Rex Omar said activities organised by institutions including the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the Creative Arts Agency fall within the broader Black Star Experience framework.

“The Black Star Experience covers all the things that happen through the Ministry of Tourism, GTA, Creative Arts Agency, everything. Every event that everybody does falls under the banner of Black Star Experience,” he said.

He noted that several activities have already taken place since the beginning of the year, including an initiative in Ethiopia where Ghanaian cultural and creative offerings were showcased.

According to him, the broader objective is to use the Black Star Experience to project Ghana internationally while creating opportunities for players in the country’s creative and tourism sectors.
