The global music world has often seen musicians come at each other through diss songs, commonly referred to as “beef,” and Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has asserted that such rivalries are necessary in the music industry.

Speaking to Adesope in an interview aired on June 4, 2026, Sarkodie, despite the renewed friendship and cordial relationship he currently shares with Dancehall musician Shatta Wale, said that another ‘beef’ between them in the future cannot be ruled out.

He explained that even though things are peaceful between them at the moment, misunderstandings can still arise at any time.

“Personally, to me I think we have a beautiful time now and let’s hold on to it. Beef, to me I will not say scratch it. Beef is very necessary. And I told Shatta Wale yesterday. We were talking and I told him that ‘listen, we are cool now but I am pretty sure that the next two or three months something will happen’. So it’s not going to stop,” he said.

He added: “When it happens, if I have to tell you something I tell you something. If you have to tell me something you tell me something.”

Over the years, Sarkodie and Shatta Wale have had one of the most widely discussed rivalries in Ghana’s music scene, even though they have also shared moments of collaboration and mutual respect at different stages of their careers.

Their relationship reportedly became strained some years back after a series of public comments and social media exchanges from Shatta Wale, who frequently criticised figures in the industry, including Sarkodie.

That tension eventually led Sarkodie to release his 2018 diss track ‘Advice’, which many fans and observers saw as one of his strongest responses to Shatta Wale.

Speaking on the inspiration behind the ‘Advice’ record, Sarkodie told Adesope that certain behaviours from Shatta Wale at the time affected his focus and pushed him to respond through music.

In recent times, however, the two Ghanaian heavyweight acts have appeared to patch things up, showing public support for each other and maintaining a more positive relationship.
