Entertainment pundit cum politician, Kwame Obeng Asare, alias A Plus, has debunked claims that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has convinced him to reverse his decision to contest as an independent candidate in the Gomoa Central Constituency.
According to him, there is no way any politician, including prominent personalities in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), can influence him to step down from contesting for the seat come December 2024.
He said that, per the work he has put in to resolve the challenges facing the constituents, he is optimistic about getting a resounding victory to defeat the incumbent NPP parliamentary candidate.
A Plus, while speaking in an Instagram live session which was monitored by GhanaWeb, urged his supporters to disregard the news of him withdrawing from the race.
“I have heard people say Bawumia has spoken to me to step down from contesting as MP. When you hear such reports, disregard them, and let’s move on. Even though he is the vice president and the flagbearer of the NPP, he cannot tell me what to do. He is very much aware of this.
“I have told them [NPP members] that if anybody tries to do anything dirty in Gomoa Central, they will be humiliated more than what happened in Assin North. We are in total control of the constituency, they can bring all the money in the world but we will still beat them,” he said.
A Plus recently activated his campaign for the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He has vowed to wrestle power from the incumbent NPP MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, who has held the seat for the second consecutive time.
