A NEWLY-born baby girl at Lapaz in Accra has been named after popular Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson. The week-old baby is called Lydia Ofosu Forson.
Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ofosu, reportedly said they decided to name her after the bubbly actress because they admired her and wanted their daughter to be like her.
Lydia undoubtedly commands respect in the movie industry and has a large fan base in Ghana and beyond.
She is loved by both the old and young and was some time ago voted among Africa’s top 10 authentic beautiful women by Mnet’s Studio 53 Extra.
The Face of Paba cosmetics and graduate of the University of Ghana confirmed the baby naming story to BEATWAVES on Thursday. “I couldn’t believe it. It came as a surprise and I’m humbled by that. I don’t know if there is another Lydia Forson out there in the world but I’m humbled by this incident,” she expressed her gratitude to the family.
Lydia, who is also the Face of rLG phone, has been acting for over five years, dating back to cameo roles in ‘Hotel St. James’ (2005), ‘Run Baby Run’ (2006) and ‘Different Shades of Blue’ (2007).
She was also in the reality show ‘The Next Movie Star’ in Nigeria (2007). Lydia has appeared in movies like ‘Scorned’, ‘Perfect Picture’ and ‘A Sting In A Tale’, all from the stables of Shirley Frimpong Manso’s Sparrow Production.
Two years ago, she co-won the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) Best Africa Actress Award alongside Jackie Appiah and Naa Ashorkor Doku. Subsequently she received an honouree award from City People Group of Companies.
