BIG BROTHER AFRICA: Sammy B returns today

He’s watched three fellow housemates leave in the past six weeks on eviction Sunday but last Sunday, August 03; it was the turn of Ghanaian radio DJ, Kwame Bampoe, a.k.a. Sammy B. The 28-year-old Accra based Adom FM DJ was the fourth housemate to leave the BIG BROTHER AFRICA house after Angola’s Bruna, Malawi’s Zein and Kenya’s Alex took early showers. Sammy B who until his eviction last Sunday was largely believed in Ghana to be the man to take home the whooping and mouth-watering $100,000, was voted out by Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and the 13th voting block (of non-participating African countries).

His departure from the show comes just days after he and fellow housemates created, produced and performed a part comedy, part drama, part musical play, as one of their tasks.

The production complete with powerful costumes and several prop changes was screened to audiences continent-wide who have been following the show on M-Net and DSTV for the past 72 days. Sammi, as he is affectionately called by the housemates, was nominated by one-time close pal, Tapuwa, Warona and controversial South African, Abigail (Abby). Tapuwa’s reason for nominating Sammi was that he (Sammi) is dishonest. Is that true of the Adom FM DJ? Your guess is as good as mine. Even though his exit from the Big Brother Africa House took many Ghanaians by surprise, some others think that the man who is noted for his antics, which could keep anybody laughing all day, reduced himself to a boot-leaker as he leaked the boots of Big Brother (whom nobody has seen yet) in some of his diary sessions.

According to some of the BBA fans in Accra, asking big brother whether he is ok “I am concerned” was absolutely unnecessary especially coming at the time when all the housemates decided to revolt against BB. To them, on the score of this, Tapuwa’s description of Sammi (as dishonest) was proper and accurate. Harsh as it seemed, other BB fans said the Adom FM and JOY FM star is not intelligent and articulate enough to carry Ghana through to the last day. Opinions are like onions and everybody has one. But to Yvonne, the exit of the “Atongo man” was a big blow to her hopes and aspirations. “I cried the whole of last night. You know, Sammi deserves to be in the house,” she told yours truly.

“I think his eviction is fine. He did not put up any fight to remain in the house. It’s good he’s coming home so he could stop wondering how BB is doing,” John said, adding, looking at the caliber of people left in the house, peacemaker, Sammi has absolutely no chance at all.” John concludes that, this game is not his game. “He’s too sensitive and positive for this kind of game.” “I think that if the organizers had their own way, they would have made him stay in the house for a little longer,” Hutchinson Lake said, adding; “he’s unique and the fact that he was given Elvis Presley’s microphone as a gift after his eviction (the first of its kind) is a demonstration that the guy will be missed.

Albert put it this way; “The house will not be the same again. He will be missed. Unlike Zein who added nothing expect boredom to the house, housemates will miss, Sammi’s sense of humour.” Now outside the familiar Big Brother Africa cameras and microphones, he began his post-eviction tour on Tuesday evening with an appearance at his first eviction party at the Kilimanjaro nightclub in Johannesburg where his fans were entertained by famed South African DJ Glen Lewis, comedian David Kau and African music sensation, Loyiso.

When he arrives in Ghana today, Sammy B will make his second eviction party appearance, complete continental media interviews and a fashionable photographic shoot. Welcome back home Sammy B.
