Art Education of UEW opens exhibition week

Winneba (C/R), April 30, GNA - The Department of Art Education of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has opened a two-day art exhibition at the University to showcase works made by lecturers and students from Bachelor of Art Education and Graphic Design. The exhibition, which was aimed at exposing talents of the students to the University community and the public, was under the theme: "Treasures from rubbles".

The Dean of the School of Creative Arts, Dr Mrs Mary Dzansi-McPalm acknowledged the importance of Visual Art in the development of the society and called for replacement of aged equipment of the Department. The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Mawutor Avoke on behalf of the University administration, pledged the support of the University to the department for the tremendous works they have exhibited. He said the department has the potential of contributing towards the development of the nation and added that the University would look at their grievances.

The Head of Department, Mr T. R, Abbam in a welcome address, noted that his outfit, the least resourced, operates with obsolete equipment and within a deplorable environment.

According to him, the department lacked looms, easels, porter's wheels, computers, sewing machines and audio visual materials and studio/lecture space. Some of the works being exhibited were paintings, drawings, sculptures, basketry, leather works, ceramic, graphic design and textile products.
