Armed robber points colleague out

A young man arrested for attempting to snatch a taxi from the driver, has been identified by a suspect in police custody as a member of his armed robbery gang. The car snatcher, Issah Mohammed alias 'Awali', 17, was arrested after he and an accomplice, Ibroh (now on the run), attempted to snatch the taxi from its owner at Nima in Accra.

Briefing the 'Times' on Friday, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Dr K.K. Manfo, said that Issah and Ibroh hired the Taxi at about 2 am on Thursday, at Accra New Town. He said, they asked the driver, Guesline Somuah, 31, to take them to Frankies Hotel at Nima.

When they got to Nima, Issah, who was sitting at the back seat alighted and pulled a knife on Somuah, asking him to surrender his car keys. Ibroh who was sitting in the front passenger's seat, opened the compartment where the driver had his day's sales and took an amount of ?120,000, which was in it.

Issah then seized the car keys, but the driver raised an alarm. The two robbers took to their heels but a team, which was called to the scene, gave a chase and arrested Issah. Ibroh managed to escape. According to Dr Manfo, when Issah was taken to cells, one of the inmates who had been remanded in custody for armed robbery pointed him out as a member of his gang.
