Ampofo-Adjei Laid To Rest

People from all walks of life including musicians and various artistes, converged at Asante-Mampong on Saturday to attend the burial of Akwasi Ampofo-Adjei, one of Ghana's popular highlife musicians who was laid to rest at Mprim, his hometown. The musicians both young and old came from all corners of the country to give their departed colleague a fitting burial and turned the occasion into a festive mood.

The late Ampofo-Adjei, who was popularly called Mr AAA, the Shinning Star, founder and leader of the Kumapim Royals Band, died on Monday, August 2, this year and left behind a wife and 16 children. Prominent among the musicians were Alhaji Sidiku Buari, President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) who led the MUSIGA delegation, Abrantie Amakye Dede, a student of the late Ampofo-Adjei, Professor Kofi Abraham, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Chapter of MUSIGA and a host of others.

The Very Reverend Father Francis Asare-Bediako, Cathedral Administrator of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese of the Catholic Church, in a sermon said the lives of those who live right with God on earth are not lost but transformed after death.

He expressed the hope that the life of Ampofo-Adjei would be transformed in view of the zeal and commitment he attached to the service of God.

The Mampong traditional Council in a tribute said the late Ampofo-Adjei was a symbol of peace, love, unity and inspiration to other people and so impacted positively on those he interacted with. MUSIGA in a tribute said the Union would forever cherish the memories of the late Ampofo-Adjei's contributions to the development and promotion of highlife music. Wreaths were laid by the family, MUSIGA and the Mampong Traditional Council.
