Amartey Hedzoleh to perform concert

Accra, March 9, GNA - Amartey Hedzoleh, a Ghanaian musician, is to perform a concert at the British Council in Accra on March 11 in a "one man show" he terms as "World beat contemporary music".

Amartey Hedzoleh, a self-taught musician who has in his lifetime performed with the likes of Hugh Masekela and Mick Fleetwood, would be making his second appearance after the first one in October last year, according to a statement from the British Council.

The statement said Amartey Dedzoleh, experimenting with different rhythms and patterns, has the ability to bring to life the spirit of the music and is always able to speak to his audience in a special way. When he performs, Amartey uses a Goje calabash, a horsetail violin and a wooden flute to create the most distinctive sounds. Amartey Hedzoleh performed at the famous "Soul to Soul" concert in Accra with a band called "Magik Aliens".

In the mid-1970's another band, which he played with called Hedzoleh Sounds, won the national Band contest organised by the Arts Council of Ghana.

Hedzoleh Sounds also toured the United States and recorded with Hugh Masekela, the legendary trumpeter.

Amartey Hedzoleh later on went on to collaborate with Mick Fleetwood, a British pop star at the cutting edge of pop in the early 1980's, to record his album, "The visitor here in Accra" and performed the soundtrack to the movie "Kukurantumi-Road to Accra"

Amartey Hedzoleh, who is of mixed parentage, traces his roots from within the Ga ethnic group of Ghana and also from India and this rare mix provides him with his unique style and approach.
