Alliance Française To Resume With Cultural Programmes

Cultural activities at the Alliance Française will commence on Wednesday, September 7 with a performance by Windy International Band as part of ‘Wednesdays at the Paillote’ programme.

The youthful band, which participated in the 2011 edition of New Music Ghana Festival, will entertain fans with a series of Afro fusion tunes that have been laced with a variety of traditional Ghanaian rhythms and beats.

On Wednesday, September 14, Dromo Dance Ensemble will engage traditional music and dance fans in a dialogue that will encompass dances from several parts of Ghana and the West African sub-region.

Fresh from a performance tour of the United Kingdom, Kyekyeku Trio will mount the stage on Wednesday, September 28. They are set to showcase a dramatic fusion of guitar and traditional instruments from Ghana, Burkina Faso and Senegal.

Based in Nima, a suburb of Accra, Dza Nyomo Dance Ensemble will take its turn on Wednesday, October 19 with traditional and contemporary dance pieces that have enchanted audiences in Ghana and other countries in Africa.

Other activities lined up for the last quarter of 2011 include art exhibitions, a jazz festival, theatre/dance performances, francophone gospel show, animation festival and a night of music, poetry and fashion.

All the concerts and performances are being sponsored by the Alliance Française in collaboration with the French Embassy in Accra.
