The organisers of Akwaaba Festival Season 5 have announced the postponement of this year’s festival, originally scheduled for March 27–29, 2026, at the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.
The festival is now proposed to take place during the Republic Day Holiday Weekend, from Friday, July 3 to Sunday, July 5, 2026, with formal confirmation of dates and venue to follow.
Joe Osae, Founder and CEO of Ceejay Multimedia and lead organiser of Akwaaba Festival, explained that the decision was driven by planning and logistical challenges.
“The recent shift in our planning timeline impacted the momentum of our vendor registrations and logistical preparations. To ensure we deliver the high-standard, vibrant experience that the Akwaaba brand is known for, we have decided to hit the ‘reset’ button,” he said.
The extra time, Osae noted, will allow organisers to “launch a fresh, robust campaign that aligns the spirit of Independence Day with the significance of Republic Day, two milestones that celebrate our Ghanaian identity.”
The organisers also addressed concerns from vendors and partners.

“We deeply regret any inconvenience caused. All fees paid by vendors will be refunded in full in the coming days. Our team will contact each vendor individually to facilitate this process,” Osae said.
In a personal note of apology, he added, “I would like to personally extend my humblest apologies to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the Ghana Tourism Authority, and the Creative Arts Agency for this turn of events. My sincere apologies also go to my Senior Partner, Bessa Simons, and the entire membership of MUSIGA, as well as our headline performer, Abochi, and all other supporters.”
Despite the postponement, the organisers reaffirmed their commitment to celebrating Ghana’s cultural heritage.
“We remain committed to promoting Ghana’s rich heritage and look forward to welcoming you all to a massive celebration this July,” Osae concluded.
