Akpeteshie Seller In Abortion Charge

A Circuit Court at Tepa, presided over by Mr Richard Kiya-Hinidza, has sentenced a 22-year-old akpeteshie seller, Afua Ahiafo, to nine years and two months imprisonment for abortion.

Afua Ahiafo, who was convicted on her own plea, told the court that she helped Margaret Baa, a student of the Tepa Local Authority Junior Secondary, to abort her four-month old pregnancy.

Police Inspector Prosper Yao Aheto told the court that when Baa became pregnant last year, the accused promised to help her to abort it and invited her to her akpeteshie bar at Tepa where the accused inserted a stick into her private part.

Baa bled and was taken to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi where she was operated on. It was at the hospital that Baa mentioned Ahiafo as the one who inserted a stick into her private part.
