Airtel Touching Lives season 2 premieres March 11

The life altering and emotional TV series, Touching Lives, which is Airtel Ghana’s flagship corporate social responsibility initiative, returns with a series of inspiring stories in season 2, airing on selected TV stations from Sunday, March 11. The 13-part series, which is part of Airtel’s endeavour to contribute to the communities in which they operate, aims to change the lives of people living in trying circumstances by offering them various supports.

The first episode of the series, subtitled ‘Rebecca the Hero’ was screened for the media with a special screening for corporate guests in the evening on Wednesday March 7 in Accra. It tells the story of Rebecca who took over the care of her sister’s family after she ‘died of frustration’. This was no normal undertaking. Of the 6 sons, five are severely handicapped. The three older brothers are unable to care for themselves at all but thanks to Rebecca’s intervention the younger two are attending a “normal” school and are able to perform a lot of their own personal tasks. The sixth brother Vincent is on a tuition scholarship at the Catholic University in Sunyani. His grades are good. He believes he was born “normal’ to help his brothers out. The key to this is a good job. Despite the problems this family faces, there is a happy positive feeling when spending time with them as they banter about the latest soccer results or talk about their school day.

The Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Philip Sowah, speaking at a media launch ahead of the start of season two of the TV series said “with Touching Lives we create an opportunity for Ghanaians to nominate people they know who are going the extra mile to make a difference in the lives of others, be it their families or communities. A strong emphasis on the program is offering support which is sustainable. As the saying goes, it is better to teach a person how to fish than to give him fish.”

Director for Human Resource and CSR of Airtel Ghana, Fafali Dzobo explained that the hundreds of nominations received after the Call to Entry in November were screened by a cross-functional team of researchers and investigative journalists with a further assessment of the situations of the nominees in the field. According to Ms. Dzobo, the season two of Touching Lives will include an update on some of the season one stories focusing on ‘life after the show’. “The new stories in Touching Lives 2 for this season covers themes such as selflessness, women empowerment, love and family among others. We do know that through these stories, we will touch the lives of viewers”, Ms. Dzobo added.

Touching Lives will start showing from Sunday March 13 and subsequently on the following stations and days: GTV (Friday 8:30pm), Metro TV (Saturday 6:30pm), TV Africa (Saturday 6:30pm), GH One (Sunday 6:30pm), Adom TV on Multi TV (Sunday 8pm with repeats on Wednesday 8:30pm) and TV3 (Sunday 9pm with a repeat of the previous one at 3:30pm)
