Aggrey Memorial School wins debate competition

Cape Coast, June 15, GNA - Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Secondary School last weekend came first in a debate competition organised by the Central Regional branch of Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) on "Adolescent Reproductive Health and Poverty alleviation", as part of activities marking this year's "Young and Wise week" anniversary celebrations, at Cape Coast.

The other secondary school which competed with the Aggrey Memorial Zion School was the Wesley Girls High School also in Cape Coast. The competition took place at the assembly hall of Wesley Girls High School. In another development, Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion Secondary captured the third position in a quiz competition involving seven secondary schools in the Cape Coast Municipality.

Schools which participated in the quiz competition included, Mfatsipim, Saint Augustine, University Practice, Academy of Christ the King, Oguaa Secondary/Technical, Wesley Girls High School, and Aggrey Memorial Zion School.

According to the Headmaster of the Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School, Mr Kwesi Appiah-Danquah, the quiz competition also formed part of the events that commemorated the "Young and Wise Week" anniversary. Mr Appiah-Danquah said the school has, for the second time running, captured the first position in the students' drama festival organised by the Central Regional secretariat of the Centre for National Culture for schools in the Central Region.

Addressing students of the school after winning the hectic debate on Adolescent Reproductive Health Poverty Alleviation, Mr Kofi Emissah, chairman of the A.M.E. Zion Secondary School's Parent/Teacher Association, on behalf of the board of governors and the management of the school, expressed his appreciation to the teams which took part in the debate and other competitors and advised them to maintain the standard and improve upon it for more laurels in future competitions.

In a message, the Right Reverend Dr Godfred Zormelo, Chairman of the school's Board of Governors, also commended the students for their good work and asked God's blessings, wisdom, long life, divine guidance and protection at all times. He also charged them to intensify their studies at all levels of their academic pursuits.
