Agbeko Unveils News-One Queen

Joseph Agbeko, Ghana’s celebrated boxer who was recently robbed of his IBM Bantamweight, stole the show at Fashion Café 2011, August Audition, last Saturday night.

The boxer received a huge applause and a near standing ovation when he calmly walked into the VIP section of the Exopa Burg in the company of hip life artiste sexy Tinny, actress Lydia Forson, Big Brother contestant Alex Biney, silk-voiced Nii Soul and a host of other celebrities to spice up the modeling and fashion show.

Agbeko remained rather calm throughout the night until he was called to put the coveted ‘Miss NEWS-ONE sash’ on the winner of the night, 21-year-old Millicent Ansomah.

Millicent, a former student of the International School for Aviation, Tema, was adjudged the best out of the sixteen models who competed for the crown. She gets a free two-year contract with Exopa Model Agency both in Ghana and Germany, plus free publicity and promotion from NEWS-ONE.

Millicent also gets a full scholarship with the Exopa Model School.

The first runner-up was 21-year-old Praise Agbeleze, who is already a trained model. She also gets a year’s contract with Exopa and an opportunity to go for free refresher courses.

The Fashion Café was put together by the Exopa Model Agency and NEWS-ONE to support Ghana’s ailing modeling industry and also help persons who want to become professional models achieve their dreams.

Last Saturday was the debut edition. The Fashion Cafe would be held on the last Saturday of every month at the Exopa Burg behind the Ghana International Trade Fair Center, La, from 9pm.

The concept is to celebrate Ghana’s fashion industry and also promote African fabrics while giving beautiful African ladies, particularly Ghanaians, the necessary training and opportunity to build a career in the modelling industry. The event hopes to revamp the fashion industry and offer runway show lovers a place to have fun.

It also provides a platform for business tycoons, fashion designers and models as well as upcoming musicians to establish rapport and discuss topics that will benefit them.

The competition is open to all ladies above age 18, who would be able to sail through an audition organized by Exopa.

Last Saturday’s event was an impressive one that saw spectacular performances from Fidel Ranks from Nigeria and several other upcoming artistes. Each event is followed by an after-party at the Exopa Burg and a beer and chicken party at Reggie Rockstone’s Office the next evening.

Aside the bikini show, there was also a segment for beach wear, African wear and corporate wear.
