The 68th annual GRAMMY Awards, held at the Crypto.com Arena, was not only a celebration of music across all genres but also a showcase of Africa’s growing influence on the global stage.

Many African artistes were nominated in various categories, and several walked away with prestigious awards.

Here’s a look at the Africans who secured awards at the ceremony this year:

Fela Kuti

The event began with a special tribute as the Recording Academy posthumously awarded the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti with a Lifetime Achievement Award, making him the first African artist to receive the honor.

His children, Yeni, Kunle, Shalewa, and Femi Kuti, accepted the award on his behalf. Yeni shared a heartfelt message, saying, “I’m sure my father is smiling down on us.”

Tyla

South African sensation Tyla, who quickly rose to global prominence, secured her second GRAMMY, winning Best African Music Performance for her single “Push 2 Start.”

Tyla previously won in this category when it debuted in 2024.

Shaboozey

Another standout moment was Nigerian-American artist Shaboozey, who won Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the hit song “Amen” alongside Jelly Roll.

In his acceptance speech, Shaboozey, of Igbo descent, paid tribute to his mother and highlighted the role of immigrants in building America.

Nonetheless, while other African stars like Davido, Angelique Kidjo, Burna Boy, and Youssou N’Dour did not take home awards, their nominations underscore Africa’s growing penetration into the global music market and its undeniable influence on the industry.
